The City of Lake Forest is located 30 miles northwest of the Chicago Loop in Lake County, Illinois. Lake Forest's adjacent communities include Lake Bluff, Lincolnshire, Riverwoods and Vernon Hills.

Throughout its history Lake Forest has been referred to as "a special place" and most residents would agree with that designation. The original plan developed in 1857 for Lake Forest was designed in the "park" tradition, following the natural curves of the ravines and creating beautiful winding streets and spacious residential lots. Now encompassing approximately 17 square miles, Lake Forest's many assets include a world-class corporate center, historic business district at Market Square, and winding, gas-lit streets with elegant homes and manicured parks. Much of the community's east side was declared a national landmark in 1978 because of its character, age and beauty.

The Lake Forest Recreation Department features 423 acres of playing fields, tennis courts and wildlife areas, as well as two public recreation centers. In addition to a 133 acre, 18 hole public golf course, there are also three private golf courses.

The majority of Lake Forest elementary school students attend District #67 with six schools and enrollment of 2,010 students. Rondout District #72 serves a small portion of Lake Forest elementary students. High school students are served mainly by Lake Forest Community High School District #115 with 1,400 students. Other high schools serving small portions of Lake Forest are Libertyville District #128, Township District #113, and Adlai E. Stevenson District #125.

Commutes to Chicago are available on Metra's Chicago & North Western/North Line or the Milwaukee District/North Line commuter trains. Interstate 94 and U.S. Rte. 41 provide north-south access.

Akorn, Inc. operates a central warehouse and distribution facility at 5605 Centerpoint Court, Suite B, Gurnee, Illinois. This facility is licensed by local and state authorities, and has been successfully inspected by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Akorn products manufactured at Somerset, New Jersey and Decatur, Illinois are distributed via this distribution site, as are products manufactured for Akorn, by internationally based contract manufacturers. Centerpoint operations provide state of the art handling and storage processes for both refrigerated and non-refrigerated finished drug products - many of which are registered and approved as USP grade products.

Centerpoint is a newly constructed facility, commissioned during 2Q 2008 - with Akorn being one of the original occupants. A workforce of nine (9) employees utilize both trucking and air freight carriers to distribute products to major U.S. wholesalers, distributors, and individual customer accounts - along with selected distribution to established international markets.

In 2010 Akorn officially opened its new R&D Center in Skokie, Illinois. The facility provides leading edge capabilities for the development of both new and generic pharmaceuticals. The center's technology and equipment will help enable Akorn to expedite its development programs, bringing a number of new products to the Company.

The R&D Center supports programs for a variety of pharmaceutical platforms in both ophthalmic and injectable drug products.
